GAIN will develop national iodine policy in Bangladesh

The government of Bangladesh has asked the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) to lead on the development of the country’s Iodine Deficiency Disorders Control Act.

The country, which is committed to reducing iodine deficiency among its population, wants to draw on GAIN’s technical leadership and engagement with key nutrition related policy and legislation to ensure that the Act complies with current best practice and international standards.

As a partner in the country’s CIDD project, GAIN has added tremendous value to discussions on the amendments to the existing Iodine Deficiency Disorders Control Act of 1989. GAIN is also working closely with the Bangladesh Ministry of Industries to set up a multi-ministerial universal salt iodization (USI) mission in the country.
