Regional monitoring workshop held in Tbilisi, Georgia

The IGN with support from UNICEF held a regional workshop on strengthening monitoring systems in countries of South-Eastern Europe and Central Asia on February 20, 2018 in Tbilisi, Georgia.
As well as celebrating the recent USI achievements in Georgia and Armenia, the workshop brought together around 40 participants from Armenia, Albania, Belarus, Georgia, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Russia and Turkmenistan, representing stakeholders in national IDD elimination programs and technical experts. The workshop coincided with the yearly meeting of the IGN Management Council held on February 21-23, also in Tbilisi.

The workshop had the following aims

  • Summarize the latest research and discuss developments in methodological and practical aspects of iodine monitoring.
  • Share experiences from national programs across South Caucasus and discuss achievements, focusing on Georgia and Armenia as examples of successful national programs.
  • Bring participants up to speed with the status of iodine programs and recent monitoring activities in countries of Eastern and Southern Europe, including Albania, Belarus, Montenegro, Macedonia, and Russia.
